Third Amended Complaint: Robert Bronstein, et al. v. Latin School of Chicago, et al. — Wrongful Death, Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress, and Breach of Duties Prior to and Following the Suicide of Nathan Bronstein

This lawsuit was filed by the Estate of Nathan Bronstein and Rose and Robert Bronstein against the Latin School of Chicago and several individuals, including current and former administrators after the death of their 15-year-old son, Nathan (“Nate”) Bronstein, by suicide in January 2022.

The complaint states that Nate was cyberbullied by certain basketball teammates and classmates at the Latin School of Chicago. Nate reported the cyberbullying to the Dean of Students, but the school deliberately downplayed his report and intentionally failed to inform the Bronsteins.

The lawsuit claims, among other things, the school failed to follow Illinois’ Bullying Prevention Act, withheld information from his parents, and later attempted to cover up its wrongdoing. The Bronsteins argue that, among other things, Latin misrepresented itself as a safe, inclusive community while intentionally omitting material information, including that Latin fosters a culture where bullying is overlooked to protect its reputation and influential families. The suit seeks accountability and damages for intentional and negligent conduct, emotional distress, and statutory violations, including violations of the Bullying Prevention Act and consumer fraud.
