ABC7 Chicago investigation: parents say schools failed to protect children from bullying

Parents say Chicago-area schools failed to protect children from bullying despite Illinois laws

Families are speaking out about what they describe as chronic bullying in Chicago-area schools, saying their children were not adequately protected and, in some cases, were forced to change schools while the alleged bullies faced little accountability. During a meeting with several parents, ABC7 Investigator Jason Knowles asked: “And raise your hand if you feel as though the school didn’t do enough.” All of the parents present raised their hands. Rose Bronstein, founder of Buckets Over Bullying, brought these families together to share their stories and shine a light on a troubling reality: Illinois has a law in place to protect students from bullying and cyberbullying, yet families continue to report that schools are failing to follow it.
